UPDATE: Shots exchanged between suspect and Johnson County officer

JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) - UPDATE: Police say the initial investigation shows that both Bradley Wayne McNeese and the Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy discharged their weapons.

The preliminary investigation also shows that McNeese was injured by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Previous Update: One man is in the hospital after an officer and a suspect exchanged gunfire in Johnson County.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting and says deputies were trying to track down a suicidal man.  When Johnson County deputies and Iowa State Patrol troopers found 32 year-old Bradley Wayne McNeese near Swisher he led them on a chase.  

The chase ended Monday night at the corner of Sandy Beach Rd. and Lake Manor Rd near Solon  That's when gun shots were exchanged between McNeese and a deputy.  No deputies were injured. McNeese was taken to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for a gunshot wound.

The deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave. His name has not been released.
