Metro Marching Band Classic postponed one week due to weather

MARION (KWWL) -

The 18th-annual Metro Marching Band Classic that was to be held at Linn-Mar High School Monday night has been postponed until Oct. 20 due to weather.

This is the first year the event has been postponed due to weather in the 18-year history of the event because, until the reconstruction of the U.S. Cellular Center, it had been held indoors and known as the Indoor Marching Band Classic.

“Marching band members are a hearty group. But this event is designed to be a non-competitive venue where band members and parents get to enjoy the other local bands' performances, and ticket sales create a huge fundraiser for our local band programs,” explained MMBC board member and emcee Scott Drzycimski in a written statement. “We didn't believe the forecast for an autumnal monsoon would be conducive to either goal of the event. We'll cross our fingers and toes for better weather next Monday.”

All seven Cedar Rapids metro-area bands -- Jefferson, Kennedy, Linn-Mar, Marion, Prairie, Washington and Xavier -- plan to perform at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 at the Linn-Mar High School football complex in Marion.

Other event details are unchanged, and all tickets sold for will be honored on the make-up date. Walk-up ticket sales will also be available at the stadium box office.

The Iowa State Cyclone Varsity Football Marching Band was scheduled to perform and is working through details to make the rain date.
