Hammers and Hardhats fundraiser to raise money for Women Build

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The  annual Hammers and Hardhats fundraiser is set to raise money for Habitat for Humanity.

Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity will host Hammers and Hardhats, where the funds raised will benefit the organization's sixth Women Build honoring Jean Lloyd-Jones, former State Senator and Representative and current co-chair of 50-50 in 2020.

The annual Women Build gathers women in the community to raise funds and build a home for a low-income family in the area. The goal of the Women Build is NOT to exclude men, but to include women who may not feel comfortable volunteering at a male-dominated construction site.

The silent auction fundraiser will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena Feller Club Room, from 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Hammers and Hardhats features a silent auction, filling appetizers, a cash bar and the Mr. and Ms. Habitat competition, where individuals face off to win the Mr. and Ms. Habitat crown. This year's competitors include well-known Iowa City community members from diverse backgrounds.

Event goers can see a full list of silent auction items and purchase tickets online at www.iowavalleyhabitat.org. Or, tickets may be purchased directly over the phone by Iowa Valley Habitat by calling 319-337-8949.
