AMES (KWWL) -

Iowa State's 2-game skid came to an end with a 37-20 non-conference win over Toledo on Homecoming.

The Cyclones started sluggish, but used a strong second half effort to rally for the win.

Toledo scored the only touchdown of the opening 30 minutes as Terry Swanson found a seam on a 14 yard run for a 10-6 lead early in the second. Iowa State managed to score on 3 Cole Netten field goals in the first half, but still trailed 13-9 at the break.

The Cyclones opened the second half with touchdowns on back to back drives. Sam Richardson threw a 23 yard scoring strike to Tad Ecby. Four minutes later, freshman Martinez Syria capped a 65 yard drive with a one yard touchdown for a 23-13 lead.

Toledo, however, didn't go away. Swanson picked up his second touchdown of the game on a one yard run. The Rockets tacked on a field goal to tie the game at 23 early in the 4th quarter.

Richardson would respond for Iowa State throwing a short touchdown pass to E.J. Bibbs. Bibbs was met by the defense at the 5 yard line, but dragged 3 defenders all the way to the goal line. The game winning score came 7 minutes later on a 14 yard pass to Allen Lazard.

Richardson finished the day with one of the best passing performances of his career completing 37 of 53 passes for 351 yards and 3 touchdowns.
