Waverly-Shell Rock pulls away from Vinton-Shellsburg 27-6

WAVERLY (KWWL) - In Class 3A District 3, 4-and-2 Waverly-Shell Rock hosted a 1-and-5 Vinton-Shellsburg team.

Friday night was Breast Cancer Awareness Night, and both teams did their part in wearing pink. But that's the only time they cooperated with each other.

The Go-Hawks were bringing it early. Waverly-Shell Rock's Riley Steckelberg goes off tackle and uses great patience in scoring a 35-yard touchdown.

Go-Hawks coach Mark Hubbard liked it, and so do the young cheerleaders in pink.

But the underdog Vinton-Shellsburg team came back. The Vikings had some misdirection, fool the photographers and the Go-Hawk defense, and Joel Barnes scores to tie the game at six.

However, the Go-Hawks retake the lead on a short run by Andrew Ragsdale.

Waverly-Shell Rock pulls away in the second half to win, 27-6.
