ARLINGTON (KWWL) -

Several horses were seized after an animal neglect investigation on a Fayette County farm, and charges of animal neglect are pending against the owners.

Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office executed a search at 5965 I Avenue in Arlington Thursday after authorities received a tip about possible animal neglect.

Deputies and a local veterinarian say they found five horses that were "very thin and malnourished."

Fayette County officials say the property owners, Duane Landis, 49, and Margaret Landis, 48, voluntarily gave up custody of the four horses they owned.

Those four horses are now in the care of volunteers.

The fifth horse was being care for by the Landises and has since been returned to its owners.

Deputies also say they found animal carcasses on the property, but did not specify how many.

Charges are pending against Duane and Margaret Landis for animal neglect and failure to dispose of dead animals.
