WATERLOO (KWWL) - The City of Waterloo Leisure Services Commission has been awarded a grant of $200,000 from Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP).

Waterloo is implementing a plan for the Sherwood Park area by removing flood damaged structures, restoring the natural floodplain, and providing recreational opportunities and improved public access to the Cedar River.

The funding will be used for construction of a picnic shelter, interpretive panels, benches, granular trails along the river, a parking area and connection to the existing South Riverside Trail.

This money will fund the creation of a new a river-based outdoor recreation area for picnicking, hiking, biking, paddling, boating and fishing.

It will be located near the intersection of Greenhill Road and Highway 218, with connection to the area paved trails system and to water trails using the boat launch facility recently constructed by the BHCCB.
