The Big Ten Conference has announced a change to the University of Iowa's 2016 football schedule.
The October 29, 2016 at Rutgers will be played on September 24, 2016 in an effort to provide more game selections for Big Ten media partners. In addition, the conference also moved the October 8, 2016 Nebraska at Northwestern game to September 24, 2016.
Iowa's trip to Rutgers will mark the first football game between the two schools and will be the Big Ten season opener for both teams.
2016 marks the Big Ten's nine-game conference schedule. Iowa will playing five road conference games and four home conference games after opening the season with three nonconference home games against Miami of Ohio, Iowa State, and North Dakota State.
Iowa hosts Northwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nebraska in 2016. They travel to Rutgers, Minnesota, Purdue, Penn State, and Illinois in that year.
The change to the schedule means the Hawkeyes open Big Ten conference play on the road three seasons in a row.
