Snowmobile manufacturers remind users to 'Look' at gas pump

HASLETT, Mich. (KWWL) -

The Iowa State Snowmobile Association and the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association are partnering with other organizations in the "Look Before You Pump" campaign to remind users of outdoor power equipment and other non-road products that they are not designed for fuel blends with higher amounts of ethanol.

The campaign uses a red warning hand symbol that shows the product is "OK" for 10 percent ethanol and "No" for mid-level ethanol blends like E15, E30 and E85.

Manufacturers say that using a higher ethanol blend in equipment such as boats, snowmobiles and motorcycles can damage or destroy equipment. They say the changing fuel marketplace has created the need for more education.

The program, which began a year ago, is now also being used by retailers such as Lowe's, Walmart and True Value.
