WALKER (KWWL) -

The Linn County Sheriff's Office says a Center Point man was injured after crashing into a parked semi Wednesday night.

Sgt. Richard Yoder says a deputy saw 28-year-old Justin Lee Hammerand heading north on North Center Point Road, just south of Walker, at a "very high rate of speed" just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Yoder says that as deputies were catching up to Hammerand, his vehicle went out of control at the intersection of Grant Street and Mill Street in Walker, crashing head on into a parked semi-tractor.

Hammerand, the only person in the vehicle, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. He is expected to recover.

Yoder says charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
