Iowa City shows off downtown streetscape designs

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The City of Iowa City will hold an open house for plans as part of the downtown Iowa City streetscape project.

The public is invited to attend an open house later this month to view schematic designs of planned transformations to Washington Street, Dubuque Street and the Pedestrian Mall as part of the downtown Iowa City streetscape project.

Both city leaders and consultants will be on hand at the open house to share information about the plan, which has incorporated numerous ideas from residents and business owners based on what they wanted to see in the future of downtown and the Northside Marketplace.

The overall streetscape plan calls for a series of improvements ranging from infrastructure upgrades and the addition of bike lanes to new lighting, new plantings and a renovation of the Ped Mall's Black Hawk Mini Park.

The city has been working with Genus Landscape Architects, a Des Moines firm, since 2013.

The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at the Amos Dean Ballroom in the Sheraton Hotel, 210 S. Dubuque Street.
