21st Safe Haven Baby: Baby dropped off at Des Moines clinic

Posted: Updated:
DES MOINES (KWWL) -

A man dropped off a newborn baby boy at a Des Moines clinic after he says the baby was born at a bus stop.

Des Moines Police tell KCCI the man dropped off the child at Parks Area Family Physicians and quickly left.

The child was taken to Blank Children's Hospital, where medical professionals say the baby is doing all right.

Officials tell KCCI this appears to be a Safe Haven situation.

Iowa's Safe Haven Law allows parents to terminate parental rights within 30 days of an infant's birth.

DHS has taken in this baby boy, and he will be placed in foster care until being made available for adoption.

This is the 21st child given up through Iowa's Safe Haven Law since it went into effect in 2002.
