Smoke alarms the focus for Fire Prevention Week

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - This is Fire Prevention Week and this year's message is " Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives:Test Yours Every Month!"

Working smoke alarms cut the chance of dying in a fire in half. Meanwhile, almost two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. Firefighters urge people to test their fire alarms at least once a month.

The Cedar Falls Fire Rescue is joining forces with the National Fire Protection Association during Fire Prevention Week to remind local residents about the importance of having working smoke alarms.

The Cedar Falls Fire Department will be hosting an Open House at Fire Station 3 this Thursday, the 9th, from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be an education for adults and children, along with a poster contest for Cedar Falls students grades K-6.
