Old Capitol Mile Race took off in Downtown Iowa City

The Old Capital Mile is what the Downtown Iowa City Race series focused on this year.

Sunday, racers of all skill levels participated in a fun run to win prizes.

"The racers will take off from the corner of Clinton Street and Iowa Avenue, near the Old Capitol in downtown Iowa City, head up Clinton Street to the president's house, and then back downtown Dubuque Street for one mile", said Joe Hughes, race organizer. "There will be some great cash prizes this year for our top finshers totaling $1,200 and gift certificates from local sponsors. "

There were three separate one-mile competition, one for he kids and family, one for women, and one for men. There was also one block kids sprint following the three heats.

The proceeds from Sunday's race will benefit Young Life and Iowa Most.
