TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (KWWL) -

The final kick may have been too much to ask. Michael Schmadeke came up short on a 53 yard field goal attempt with 31 seconds remaining as UNI fell 20-19 at Indiana State. The miss was the first for Schmadeke out of 17 attempts this season.

The Panthers had their share of ups and downs on Saturday. Indiana State opened up scoring the game's first 14 points forcing UNI to play from behind from the get-go.

In the second quarter, the Panthers finally ended their drought as Sawyer Kollmorgen found the end zone on a keeper to cap an 87 yard drive. From their on out, it was the Schmadeke show.

The junior kicker accounted for the next 12 points in the game, hitting from 21, 48, 30, and 31 yards in the game. The 4th field goal, early in the 4th quarter gave UNI a 19-14 edge.

That held up until late when Indiana State's Chris O'Leary found Gary Owens on a 38 yard touchdown strike for the 20-19 lead with 2:12 remaining.

The Panthers drove back to the ISU 36, but Schmadeke's final attempt came up short of the cross bar.

David Johnson led the UNI rushing attack with 127 yards on the day. He moved in to 3rd on the all-time Panther all-purpose yardage list.
