NEW DETAILS: Dubuque Co. says infant was stillborn

Posted: Updated:
DYERSVILLE (KWWL) -
The Dubuque County Sheriff's Department says an infant found dead in Dyersville was stillborn.

According to authorities, the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office, Dyersville Police and Dyersville EMS responded to a residence on the northwest side of Dyersville Friday afternoon. The infant was pronounced dead at the residence.  The infant was reportedly delivered on Friday morning and remained in the home until authorities were notified of the incident on Friday afternoon.

The Dubuque County Sheriff's Office, Department of Human Services, Dubuque County Medical Examiner's Office and the State Medical Examiner's Office met on Thursday to review the results of the autopsy.

Captain Bob Lynn of the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office says the autopsy suggests the infant was stillborn and no foul play is suspected. Lynn says the fact that the delivery was not immediately reported caused concern, but did not violate any law.

The investigation is still ongoing.

KWWL's Ally Crutcher, Adam Amdor and Eric Page contributed to this report.
