CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Cedar Rapids elementary school will host a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 8 to ‘flip the switch' on new their exterior lighting.

The updated lighting will improve energy efficiency and will also provide better security coverage around Taylor Elementary School.

The Lowe's Cooperation provided a $5,000 grant toward the $8,500 project with the remainder funded by the District's Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL).

“The upgrades to the exterior lighting around the building will enhance the safety and security of students, staff, and the community,” said Brian Christoffersen, principal.

“The upgrade would not have been possible without Lowe's generosity.”

The ribbon-cutting event will include school staff, students, and Lowe's employees.
