Coach Ed Thomas' legacy lives on through leadership conference

Coach and community leader Ed Thomas lives on through a new leadership conference.

The Ed Thomas Family Foundation's first annual Leadership Legacy Academy was Thursday at Aplington-Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg.

More than 490 students listened to life lessons and lessons on leadership from former NFL player Aaron Kampman, Ed Thomas' son Aaron Thomas, former AP football coach Al Kerns and Wartburg Track and Field Coach Marcus Newsom.

Aaron Thomas is now the principal at Aplington-Parkersburg, and he says this has been a goal for the past five years since his father's death.

“To me, it's special to be able to pass that along to the next generation," Thomas said. "I look at my classmates and some of those who were older who were coached by my dad, and the impacts they make in our communities and the communities they're living in now, and to me it's how we can continue to honor my dad and how his legacy will continue."

Students from 36 schools attended Thursday.
