Deadline approaches for 2014 Human Rights Award nominations

The deadlines for the Iowa City 2014 Human Rights Award nominations are rapidly approaching

There are five Human Rights Award categories through which nominations may be submitted: the Isabel Turner Award, Rick Graf Award, Linda Severson Award (Individual in a Service Organization), International Award, Bill Reagan Business/Community Award, and the Kenneth Cmiel Award.

Next Wednesday, October 8, the public is encouraged to nominate individuals, businesses, or organizations whose ongoing work, service, or contributions have positively impacted human rights either locally or abroad.

The awards will be presented at the 31st Annual Human Rights Awards Breakfast on Wednesday, October 29 in the Second Floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Keynote speaker will be the Honorable Jim Leach, a past member of the U.S. House of Representatives Iowa (1977-2006) and former Chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities from 2009 to 2013. He is currently serving as the University of Iowa Chair of Public Affairs and a visiting professor and senior scholar in the University of Iowa College of Law.

The breakfast is open to the public. Tickets are $20 per person and must be purchased by October 24 at the Cashier's Desk at City Hall, 410 E.
