Iowa State lost first team All-Big 12 players Melvin Ejim and DeAndre Kane, but the Cyclones return 5 of their top 7 scorers from last year's NCAA Sweet Sixteen team.  Iowa State head coach Fred Hoiberg begins his fifth season as the leader in Ames and the "Mayor" believes with hard work and focus this year's squad can also contend on the national stage.

Hoiberg said, "There's still room to grow and I think some of the guys that tasted some of that success want to get back to that point where you are competing for a championship and I think the newcomers are hungry to do it as well."

Iowa State sophomore guard Monte Morris says the team isn't worried about heavy expectations.

" I don't thinks it is pressure at all--I think it would be pressure if we were in here lolly gagging around but we are in here working and we want to show the nation what Iowa State basketball is all about."

Hoiberg also announced that Matt Thomas and Abdel Nader will both serve three game suspensions for off season drunken driving suspensions.
