Cedar Rapids man admits to selling synthetic drugs in shop

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - A Cedar Rapids man has pleaded guilty in federal court, saying he opened a business with the purpose of selling synthetic drugs.

Matthew McCauley, 39, says he opened the Fragrance Hut in Cedar Rapids for the purpose of distributing illegal synthetic drugs.

He also says he stole another person's identity in relation to a wire fraud scheme.

McCauley was convicted of maintaining a premises for the distribution of controlled substances and aggravated identity theft.

He faces a possible maximum 20 years in prison on the drug charge and a mandatory sentence of two imprisonment on the identity theft charge. He also will have to pay fines.
