New program launched to help end hunger in Iowa

Posted: Updated:

Feeding America and its partner, the Iowa Food Bank Association, has launched a new program, "Invest an Acre". The program gives farmers a convenient way for farmers to donate, by giving at least an acre of crops to help fight hunger.

Iowa Soybean Association Director Brian Kemp encourages farmers to participate in the program with the goal of generating $50,000 in contributions for Iowa food banks.

To donate, a farmer can fill out a form indicating a donation amount and then simply drop off any desired crops. That form may be found at your local elevator, on the Iowa Soybean Association website (www.iasoybeans.com), or from the Iowa Food Bank Association.

Proceeds go directly to the food banks serving the area where the contribution was made. One-hundred percent of donations will help fund the local food bank or food pantry servings in that area.

"Invest an Acre" is founded by The Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
