CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Cedar Rapids police say they've had six stolen vehicles in the last six days -- but say vehicle owners are leaving themselves too vulnerable.

Since Sept. 19, the Cedar Rapids Police Department has received reports of six stolen vehicles. Police say, in each case, the vehicles were left unlocked and the keys were in the ignition.

The department wants to remind you to keep your vehicle locked at all times and that you should never leave your keys in the car while it's parked. Make sure your windows are rolled up and the sun roof is closed, even if the car is parked in front of your house.

Cedar Rapids Police also say it's a bad idea to leave your vehicle title, identification documents and credit or debit cards in your car. However, they say you should be sure to take your registration and insurance card with you.

Keep valuables out of sight, and park your car in well-lit areas.

In the winter months, thieves can get into you car if you leave it parked, unlocked and running.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department also says it's a good idea to install an anti-theft system.
