WATERLOO (KWWL) -
A new veterans center at Hawkeye Community College is helping those in the military.
Tuesday was the official launch of the Veterans Center inside the Brock Student Center.
The center comes after a task force was formed in 2010 to access the needs of student veterans. The task force decided students needed a space to bring in off campus services and most importantly peer connection.
Coty Bratt, a Hawkeye Community College student, said it was nice "being able to find help if you need help with class work or if you're struggling with something else outside in your personal life. People that you can relate to."
Last year, the college counted roughly 320 veterans or active duty members on campus.
Leslie Hospitality owner Edwin Leslie says he doesn't have anything to hide, and to prove it he invited the public to view all of the documents, emails, agreements, and financial statements related to the deal at a public meeting this morning.
