Drivers, crowd remember John Pickart at "Race 'Em or Wreck 'Em" event

Friends and family are still mourning the loss of a norway man killed in Cedar Rapids while racing at Hawkeye downs last Saturday.

John Pickart, 68, was driving a motor home when it flipped over, killed him Saturday, during the Race 'Em or Wreck 'Em event.

"He was the friendliest rival I ever had," said Gary Modeler, a driver.

Moeller has been racing motor homes along side Pickart for 4 years. He said he was right behind Pickart when the accident took place last Sunday.

"I had a feeling it wasn't going to be good and all I could do it was," said Moeller.

Moeller joined dozens of other drivers at Farley Speedway on Sunday for the Race 'Em or Wreck 'Em event. Through the event cars of all different sizes compete. Although motor homes did not compete on Sunday.

During the event drivers were encouraged to sign a poster in memory of John Pickart before heading out on the track. Drivers also collected donations for the victims family during the races.
