Chili cook-off set for October in Mount Vernon

Posted: Updated:

An 8th Annual chili cook-off is set to hit eastern Iowa in October.

The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group will host the chili cook-off contest where 20 four-person teams will compete for the top prize of $500 for the best chili.

The event is open to the public and will feature live music.

There is a chili-tasting portion where the public can try some the best of the best.

“This is our 8th Annual event and each year we try to improve and expand,” says event chair Lori Winder. “We try to offer a little something for all ages – from a bags tournament to live music. This is a great way to try chili, support a local non-profit and socialize with friends and family.”

There are five judges from the Mount Vernon area who will decide which group made the best tasting chili.

The event is Saturday, October 4, from 4 to 7 p.m., in Uptown Mount Vernon.

Admission to the event is free.
