HAZLETON (KWWL) -
Mike Loomis has served as the Public Works Director for the City of Hazleton for three and a half years. Seven days a week, 365 days a year, Loomis hops in his truck to tend to any issues throughout the city.
Loomis has only taken a single day off from work in the last three and a half years, and it wasn't exactly for his leisure.
"I had a kidney stone and was in the hospital," Loomis said.
Aside from the single day off, he remains on call 24 hours a day, and typically works seven days a week. He said he has many priorities throughout his city, one of which centers around the city's water quality.
One of Loomis' daily stops includes the Hazleton Well Water House, where he checks to make sure things are running efficiently. He checks the chlorine levels in the water multiple times a day to ensure safe drinking water for residents.
Loomis said public safety isn't the only reason he dedicates his time and energy to the city of Hazleton. Before serving as the Public Works Director, he worked for a trucking company and traveled all over the country. He said now, he's able to spend more time with his family.
"This job mainly allows me to be home every day, and with my two grown children, I wasn't there a whole lot. My wife and I had another baby five years ago, so I get another chance."
Loomis also said he loves the people of Hazleton; making his job that much more enjoyable.
