UNI thrashes Northern Colorado 46-7

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

There's no place like Dome for the UNI football team. The Panthers returned to Cedar Falls for the first time and went on to hammer visiting Northern Colorado 46-7.

UNI scored the first 39 points in the game, and had success in almost all phases.

Running back David Johnson put up his best numbers of the year, rushing for 173 yards and a touchdown. In the passing game, Sawyer Kollmorgen threw for a pair of scores and 159 yards. Kicker Michael Schmadeke hit 3 out of 3 field goals, including a long of 43 yards.

Defensively, the Panthers held the Bears off the scoreboard in three of four quarters, while allowing fewer than 200 total yards.

Even the special teams came up big. In the second quarter, Deiondre' Hall flew past the Northern Colorado line, blocking a punt out of the back of the endzone for a safety.

Northern Iowa ends their non-conference slate next Saturday when they host Tennessee Tech.
