EVANSDALE (KWWL) - The Third Annual Forever Young 5K took place Saturday morning at Meyers Lake in Evansdale.

The race began around 9 a.m., with more than 300 people registered. The event is held in remembrance of Lindsay Nichols and Kelsey Lee. Nichols was murdered in Jesup in March of 2012; Lee was a classmate of hers, who died of cancer after battling the disease for seven years.

The parents of Lindsay Nichols said the support from the community has immensely helped the healing process.

"The support we've had over the last three years has been tremendous. I mean, we can't thank the community enough for all that they have done," Tom Nichols said.

The race funds two scholarships that have been established for students pursuing degrees in a health science field.

The Fourth Annual Forever Young 5K will be held Sept. 19, 2015 at Meyers Lake in Evansdale.
