Iowa City West gets the "Boot" with 30-6 win over City High
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -
It was the Battle of the Boot Friday night in Iowa City with City High visiting Iowa City West.
This has been a down year for these two perennial powers, as City High is winless while Iowa City West has only defeated one team.
City High took home the boot last year and West High has been looking for revenge Friday night.
The Trojans would literally kick things off as West High's kicker, Conner Gordon, would nail a 35-yard field goal. The Trojans would go up by three points early in the game.
Later in the first quarter, West High would got to the air as quarterback Aaron Bliel would let it fly and hit receiver Oliver Martin in stride for an easy six points. With Gordon hitting the extra point, the Trojans go up by 10.
Near the end of the first quarter, Bliel would let it fly once again, but this time he would hook up with Donavan Doyle, who would make a great extra effort to get across the goal line and add six points to the board.
The extra point would be good, and the Trojans would stay on top of the Little Hawks 17-0.
The Trojans would also show they could run the ball on City High, as Bliel would handoff the ball to Kevin Dowell, who would take it into the end zone untouched. With the PAT, the Trojans would go up 24-0.
The Little Hawks would have trouble on both sides of the ball.
The Trojans take home the boot with a 30 to 6 win over City High.
