UPDATE: Woman in stable condition after Cedar Rapids shooting

Posted: Updated:

Cedar Rapids Police said Saturday morning the young woman involved in the Cedar Rapids shooting Friday afternoon is in stable condition, following surgery for gunshot wounds. Police said she was taken to a local hospital Friday with serious injuries. Police would not name the hospital to which she was taken.

A Marion man was arrested and charged in a the shooting Friday afternoon.

Brandon Don Gordon, 18, of Marion was arrested Friday and charged with attempted murder, two counts of going armed with intent, two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon and willful injury causing serious injury. All charges are felonies.

Cedar Rapids Police say Gordon fired multiple shots into a vehicle parked at the BP station at 4141 Center Point Road NE.

At least one of those bullets hit Kirsten Lee Meyer, 18, of Cedar Rapids.

However, police say Gordon was intending to shoot Rodney Da Vas Burt, 19, of Marion, who was also in the vehicle with Meyer.

Meyer was taken to an unnamed hospital for her injuries. Her condition is not known, but Cedar Rapids Police spokesman Greg Buelow said her condition was "serious" when she was transported to the hospital.

Police in Cedar Rapids now say a package initially thought to be suspicious and related to a shooting is not related and not a danger.

Cedar Rapids Police discovered what turned out to be a plastic bag full of merchandise security sensors on the roof of Golden Nails, a nail salon next door to the BP station where a woman was shot earlier Friday.

Officials say it's likely that someone was stealing merchandise from stores, cut the security sensors off and threw the bag on the roof.

The package was determined to be unrelated to a shooting that happened at 12:19 p.m. Friday.

Police in Cedar Rapids are investigating a shooting and a suspicious package in the area of 42nd Street and Center Point Road NE.

Cedar Rapids police say they were called to the BP gas station at 42nd Street and Center Point Road at 12:19 p.m. for a shooting. Once on scene, officers found that an 18-year-old woman in an SUV had been shot at least once.

Witnesses told police that a man in a silver Pontiac had pulled next to her vehicle and fired multiple shots.

Police found the suspect vehicle a few minutes later in the 1100 block of Center Street NE. The suspect was found on foot near the intersection of 32nd Street and Eastern Avenue NE and arrested.

Police believe that everyone involved has been located and say the public is no longer in danger.

The Cedar Rapids Community School District says four schools, Kennedy High School, Harding Middle School, Wright Elementary and Pierce Elementary, were put on lockdown for about 45 minutes as a precaution.

Police are also expanding the perimeter as they investigate a suspicious package on the roof of a nail salon next door to the gas station.
