Mercy Hospital--Iowa City to be named walking challenge champions

Mercy Hospital Iowa City will be named Champion of the Time to Move Walking Challenge.

The Blue Zones Project Iowa City will present a traveling trophy to Mercy in the hospital atrium on 500 E. Market Street at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014.

It was a two week challenge where minutes of walking were clocked each day by staff members of area businesses.

Staff from ACT, a mission-driven nonprofit organization, Mercy Hospital – Iowa City, and Pearson participated in the challenge.

Mercy staff walked a total of 12,264 miles and 183,970 total minutes. The staff walked to every football game.

The ACT team walked 125,218 minutes and Pearson: 110,465 minutes.

Leadership staff from Mercy, ACT & Pearson will all be in attendance at the trophy presentation.

Iowa City is one of 15 Blue Zones Project demonstration sites in Iowa.
