OELWEIN (KWWL) - Seven Oelwein kids face charges in a cemetery vandalism case.

Oelwein Police Chief Jeremy Logan says about $4,200 in damage was done at Oakdale Cemetery, located in the 200 block of 4th Street SW.

The damage was reported to police on Sept. 9.

A 12-year-old, two 13-year-olds, two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old have all been charged with second-degree criminal mischief and their cases were referred to juvenile court services.

“While we take all criminal mischief cases seriously, it is especially disheartening when damage is done to grave sites," Logan said in a written statement. "Our officers, with the assistance of citizens, worked diligently to sort through this incident and bring it to a close."
