DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

An employee at a Dubuque auto repair shop is in critical condition after he was pinned trying to stop a truck from rolling away.

Anthony Cross, 45, of Dubuque was taken to Finley Hospital in Dubuque after being injured on the job at Big A Auto, according to Dubuque Police Lt. Scott Baxter.

Police responded Monday to a report of an accident at Big A Auto in Dubuque. Officers determined Cross was doing mechanical work on a truck when the vehicle apparently slipped out of gear while he was working on it.

Police say Cross attempted to stop the vehicle from rolling and became pinned between the truck and the building. Others were able to get Cross unpinned before officers arrived, according to Baxter.

Cross was transported to Finley Hospital but was later driven by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, according to information provided to KWWL by Cross' friend Jeff Lenhart.

Vicki Dolan, who identified herself only as part of Tony Cross's family, told KWWL on Tuesday afternoon that Cross has one fractured vertebrae, one totally-collapsed lung, one partially-collapsed lung, broken ribs and a possible small intestine tear as well as several scrapes and bruises. Dolan also noted Cross was on a ventilator and in stable but critical condition.
