CR to host African music group

Posted: Updated:
On Tuesday, Sept 16, the African American Museum of Iowa will host the African music group Kinobe & the Wamu Spirit.

Kinobe and the Wamu Spirit present a short performance and discussion at African American Museum of Iowa.

Ugandan native Herbert Kinobe and his fellow band mates are in town for Landfall, performing at the five-day festival and participating in educational activities as part of their National Performance Network (NPN) residency.

Kinobe is the believed by many to be the new voice of Ugandan music, the inspired synthesis of African roots and world music, of traditional and modern instrumentation.

These musicians represent the new vanguard of Ugandan performers, gifted instrumentalists steeped in the music of their homeland, but with ears opened to the sounds of the world at large.

The performance will be held at 6:30pm in the African American Museum of Iowa, 55 12th Ave SE, Cedar Rapids
