Motorcyclists attempt to climb 200 foot hill

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds flocked just south of Anamosa Sunday for this years annual Anamosa Hill Climb.

During the Hill climb, motorcyclists rode different bikes up a hill that stands 200 feet tall. Although the hill may look tough, Anamosa Hill Climb officials say if riders gain momentum at the bottom of the hill, the rest of the hill should be easier to climb. Organizers said the average time it takes for riders to make their way up the hill is a mere 6 seconds.

Wade Schultz has been taking part in the Hill Climb for 32 years. He said it's not your average hill climb. "It's not like normal hill climbs where they're smoother. This hill is really rough," said Schultz. The hill is so rough that riders need catchers wearing cleats to help them if they fall of their bikes.

Organizers said this years event drew more than 100 riders to Jones County. They 50% of those people will make it up the hill completely.
