Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones tailgating showdown

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

You might as well call it an Iowa showdown. The Iowa Hawkeyes are set to play their winless in-state rivals the Iowa State Cyclones.

Fans from all across Iowa and even Missouri came to tailgate and see who will take home the CyHawk Trophy and the in-state bragging rights.

"CyHawk series, so hopefully the Cyclones can get a win," said Brock Niebuhr, a cyclone fan. "I've been a Cyclone fan since I was born. So you've gotta rock the red an gold even if you're in enemy territory."

The parking lots were packed, the grills were going, and the drinks were flowing for the CyHawk showdown, but for some, it was a bachelor party showdown.

"Bachelor party! I knew all my friends would be in town anyway, I was like why not, it's going to be a great time," said Mike Jenson, who gets married in a couple weeks and an Iowa fan.

While many say Iowa is a Hawkeye state the cardinal red and gold had to show their pride too.

"We have great friends they're Hawkeyes and Cyclones, so they're make us feel at home," said Laura Knott, mother of Luke Knott linebacker with the Cyclones. "This is my 6th year with this, just good luck to number 21, Luke and Go cyclones!"

We caught up with a rival couple.

Jim and Jane Stillman has been married for 44 years and Jim's a Cyclone fan while Jane's a Hawkeye fan. A house divided.

"Half of us go home happy after this game," said Jim Stillman.

"[It's] very easy, we've got a son and daughter in law the same way," said Jane Stillman.

Last year, the Hawkeyes took the victory over the Cyclones in Ames, with a 27-21 victory.
