Cedar Rapids Urban Deer Hunt begins Saturday

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A few dozen hunters will take aim at deer inside the city limits of Cedar Rapids beginning on Saturday as part of the Urban Deer Management Program.

The city says 72 hunters passed an eight-hour Bow Hunter's Safety Course, an annual proficiency certification test and an Urban Deer Hunt Rules and Regulations Class.

Only four of those hunters are new. The other 68 participated in a previous hunt.

The hunters taking part in the bow hunt can harvest deer within city limits as long as they have a landowner's permission. There is no hunting allowed on public property.

Hunters who have harvested five does in the previous year's hunt will be allowed to harvest a buck this year after harvesting one more doe. Seventeen hunters are eligible for a buck tag this year.

The hunt will conclude on Jan. 10.
