West Branch library, museum to celebrate Museum Day

WEST BRANCH (KWWL) - The Herbert Hoover Presidential Library-Museum in West Branch will celebrate Smithsonian Magazine's 10th annual Museum Day Live.

The nationwide event represents Smithsonian's commitment to make learning and the spread of knowledge accessible to everyone by giving museums across the country the opportunity to match the admission policy of the Smithsonian Museums in Washington, D.C.

Visitors of the Hoover Museum will be able to see the life story of Herbert Hoover along with a temporary exhibit, “America's First Ladies,” for free.

The exhibit has items from each First Lady of the United States.

“Not many museums can offer free admission," said museum spokesperson Janlyn Slach. "We like having the opportunity to partner with the Smithsonian Museum Day Live program to offer free admission for this one day.”

In 2013, there were more than 400,000 participants across the U.S., and they're hoping the event brings even more this year.

The doors will open Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Herbert Hoover Presidential Museum is located in West Branch, off I-80 at exit 254.
