Lt. Scott Baxter of the Dubuque Police Department said police have noticed a general increase in the amount of gun violence in the city, with even amounts of gun violence both day and night.

"It of course has us concerned," said Lt. Baxter, "It should have the general public concerned."

Baxter said in many of the incidents, including Wednesday's, had previous contact with one another. He said the public is not in danger.

"The attacks aren't random. Generally speaking the average citizen out there who making good choices, working hard, and are not out engaging in this type of behavior has nothing to worry about. With that being said, anytime you have shots fired obviously the bullets don't always hit there mark," said Lt. Baxter.

Dubuque Police said they believe Wednesday's incident stemmed from an apparent fight inside the address of 1628 White Street.

Bev Miller lives near where the incident took place. She said she noticed the man laying in the street and immediately called 911.

"He just fell and all the cars were driving around him. I ran to him and looked, then I saw the blood and I said 'did you just get shot?' and he said 'yes'," said Miller.

Lt. Scott Baxter said the Dubuque Police Department has extra officers patrolling areas where crime is more common in Dubuque.
