Springville superintendent disappointed by election results

SPRINGVILLE (KWWL) -

After failing to gain voter support for the bond issue, the superintendent of the Springville Community School District says she's disappointed.

On Tuesday, Springville voters decided against two separate questions on the ballot. One was a bond and the other a levy, which would have spiked property taxes $200 more per year for a person whose home has an assessed value of $100,000.

The district had hoped to use the money for renovations at the elementary school.

Superintendent Amy Kortemeyer says the district will regroup and decide what comes next, though it will likely mean a future trip to the polls. Whether it will be this same proposal, or something else, has yet to be determined.

Voters divided up pretty equally on the two questions, which each needed a super-majority of 60 percent to pass.

Voter turnout was high for a school election -- around 44 percent.
