IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Despite being hit by a car while riding his scooter, Hawkeye defensive lineman Drew Ott is expected to recover in time to play on Saturday  against Iowa State.

Iowa City police say Ott was driving his scooter and was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Benton and Greenwood Monday morning. The driver of the car was cited for failure to yield.

Ott was not wearing a helmet and was taken to the  hospital for his injuries.

Tuesday Coach Kirk Ferentz says Ott is expected to play Saturday when the Hawkeyes take on the Iowa State Cyclones.

Ott was named the Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday's game against Ball State.
