DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Holy Family Catholic Schools in Dubuque just completed the most successful fundraising year in the system's history.

The 2013-14 annual fund campaign netted Dubuque's Catholic school system more than $1.3 million.

Chris McCarville, director of institutional advancement, said, "Our success this year has 100 percent to do with the people who believe in our schools and Catholic education. Seeing such a big jump in financial support says to me that people believe strongly in the type of education and experience we offer our students at all grade levels. The generosity of so many, in so many different ways, is truly inspiring."

This record amount of funds raised are helping pay for school-related items such as student retreats, iPads and laptops. Dollars raised during the 2013-14 campaign enabled Holy Family to have a student-to-computer ratio of 1:1 for kids in sixth through 12th grades.

"The challenge for us now becomes keeping this trend moving forward," McCarville said. "While other school systems in the area are able to rely on tax dollars for support, we are different in that we rely mostly on the generosity of individuals, families and businesses to operate."

Holy Family Catholic Schools plans on launching a capital campaign to raise money and awareness specifically for the remodel of Wahlert Catholic High School.
