Man arrested following Linn County robbery

LINN COUNTY (KWWL) - A man has been charged with robbery following an incident in Linn County.

According to Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner, on Saturday, September 6, a man told the sheriff's office he had asked for a ride from two women and a man from a building on the 300 block of 9th St in Marion.

While driving toward Center Point, the man in the vehicle told to driver to pull over near Oliphant Cemetery. The man in the vehicle told the victim to get out while holding a gun, then robbed him. The man got back in the car, they drove off, and left the victim on the side of the road until someone passing by called 911.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office sent out a description of the vehicle and the Marion Police Department stopped the vehicle near Cedar Rapids.

Devonta Safforld, 20, was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant. Items belonging to the victim were found in the car and Safforld was then charged with Robbery in the 1st Degree. He is being held in the Linn County Jail.
