Iowa's Ott named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

A stellar performance against Ball State has landed the University of Iowa's Drew Ott Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Ott, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound junior from Trumbull, Nebraska, is the first Hawkeye to be honored by the conference this season.

Ott, who forced a last minute fumble to solidify the win, had a career-high 13 tackles, including six solo and seven assisted, in the 17-13 win over Ball State. He also notched 2.5 tackles for loss and a quarterback sack.

The Iowa defense held Ball State's offense to six points, 90 net rushing yards and 219 yards of total offense.

Ott has 17 tackles, including 3.5 for loss, and two quarterback sacks this season.

The Iowa defense has not allowed a rushing touchdown this season.

The last Hawkeye to earn Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors was linebacker Christian Kirksey who earned it for his performance against Nebraska in the 2013 regular season finale.

Ott and the rest of the Hawkeyes host Iowa State on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the annual Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series battle. The game is sold out.
