Gladbrook-Reinbeck upsets Dike-New Hartford

Posted: Updated:

Dike-New Hartford entered the night riding a 21-game regular season winning streak dating back to 2011.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck stumbled out of the blocks losing its season opener to Union.

Fans braved the cold for the Battle of the Blue tonight in Dike.

The Wolverines came out with a fumble in the first few plays, and the Rebels Colton Dinsdale scooped it and ran it back, putting them on the board 7-0.

But the next drive, cold hands struck again, and GR gave the turnover back to DNH. That drive fizzled though, and DNH punted.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck's Josh Cooley recovered, and ran it back to the Wolverine's 5 yard line.

The next play the drive paid off, and they ran it up the center, diving through the line to put them up 14-0.

But this is Wolverine Country, and Dike-New Hartford came to play.

Mid first-half, ssophomoreTrent Johnson broke through the line and ran it all the way into the endzone, bring DNH into the fight 14-6.

Lots of big kick returns tonight -- DNH #7 Connor Neuroth returned a kickoff for a touchdown in the second quarter without anyone touching.

The Rebels kept it rolling, snapping DNH's stream with a decisive 49-25 win.
