Voters decide on Cedar Rapids PPEL rate Tuesday

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Voters in the Cedar Rapids Community School District have to decide on the district's Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) Tuesday.

If approved, the district will use the money to do maintenance at buildings across the district. However

, the district wants to double the current PPEL rate, which would mean higher property taxes. According to the district, it would cost an extra $37.43 per year for a person whose home has an assessed value of $100,000.

The district says the PPEL rate hasn't raised in 40 years and that buildings badly need repairs.

However, doubling the PPEL rate was on the ballot last year and voters said no.
