WATERLOO (KWWL) -

One person was injured after a train collided with a car on the railroad tracks Thursday in Waterloo.

The crash occurred at East Fourth and Dane streets on Thursday morning.

One car hit a railroad crossing-arm pole in an attempt to avoid the train. It wasn't clear if the car was trying to cross the tracks at the time or had gotten stuck. The train company believes the car hit between the six and seventh cars on the freight.

The train then hit the car, pushing it further into the pole.

Three people were in the car when it was hit. The driver then ran from the crash. It was unclear if the driver fled before or after impact.

One of the other two passengers was taken to Allen Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Waterloo Fire.

KWWL has a crew at the scene and will update immediately on this link when we have more information.
