Prison sentence in Ely bank robbing case

Robert Melton from Cedar Rapids, was sentenced on Sept. 2nd to more than three years in prison after robbing a bank in Ely.

Melton struck a plea deal on May 15, admitting that he entered the Solon State Bank on January 17, 2014, gave a note to a teller demanding money and informing them not to do anything and nothing would happen.

After robbing the bank, Melton drove his truck and a witness followed him as they called 911 giving the police his location.

Judge Linda R. Reade sentenced Melton to 46 months in Cedar Rapids.

He must also serve a three year term of supervised release following his prison sentence.
