Texting and driving crash leads to impaled Colorado driver

ELIZABETH, Colo. (KWWL) -

A Colorado woman has learned about texting and driving the hard way -- and it's something hard to walk away from for awhile.

Police say Christina Jahnz completed a voice-to-text message, looked down to proofread, and slammed into a guardrail pole.

The pole went through the front of her truck, piercing her in the buttocks and continuing through the seat behind her.

"The next thing I knew, I was looking up (and) there was white powder from the air bag," said Jahnz.

After the crash, she went into emergency surgery.

"They had to cut up there and they had to cut behind me because the pipe went through my seat," she said. "I could feel it -- the vibrations and stuff."

Jahnz is now out of the hospital, but needs to use a walker for awhile. She's expected to make a full recovery.
